Freaky Monkey Software & Upscaling Videos
I'm here to report bad news that (thankfully) turned into great news! First, let's take care of the bad news.
As you all probably know by know, I've been using DAIN for interpolating my videos from 15fps to 60fps. That added 45fps improves the quality of my brickfilms immensely. The downside is my computers graphics-card can't handle interpolating the video at Full HD (1080p), so I must downscale my video to SD (480p). That's over two times smaller! As you would expect, when I render it out of Vegas Pro, it doesn't look the best, very pixelated. I didn't really notice it in LEGO Pool Fail, but for some reason, the MNHAFD P2 looks TERRIBLE! I needed a software that could upscale it to improve the visual look of the film.
After looking at multiple lists for the best video upscaling software at an affordable price, DVDFab came up #1 on multiple lists and review pages. Naturally, I clicked on the link and the product video on the front page was STUNNING! It did exactly what I needed! Here is the video they displayed. If that wasn't enough, it was only $100 with 30 day returns and a full refund! The site was also 100% safe (liar!…oops. Spoiler🚨.) So at breakfast the next morning (I do the majority of my research at night so I can spend time with my family during the day) I asked my Mom and Dad if I could go half and half on the price. I showed them the video and they said they would pay for the whole thing. Feeling like a little boy who just got the toy he always wanted, I ran upstairs to my computer with my Mom's credit card.
The first red flag was that they suddenly added $89 to the price for licensing they never said anything about. My Mom said to continue so I put in the info it asked. The second red flag was it said that the bank refused the payment. I tried with the card 3 more times without luck until I switched card companies. It finally went through. That's when a text came through from the first company saying that the site I bought from might be a fraud.
To say I felt like a piece of pond scum at that moment would be an understatement. To make matters worse, when I installed the software it said I was on a free trial! I don't know how $200 is a free trial, but I tried it out anyways. It looked nothing like the site pictured, and IT DID NOT WORK!!! It didn't work...AT ALL!!! If anything, it made it look WORSE! I went into my parents room and told them what we feared, and they had something to say to me. I wasn't the only one who was fooled. Not only did they rob the money from people with a software that doesn't work, but it appeared they set up a whole network of fake reviewers who made the lists I looked at!
I apologized profusely to my parents. At that point, I just wanted to curl up in a ball and hide. The fact that in an attempt to save the family money I had cost them $200 made me feel like I could never ask them for anything involving computers again. Then it hit my Dad that the software might have a virus that was going to destroy my computer. I was, no joke, trembling at that point!
But then...everything miraculously came together.
First, my Dad uninstalled the Freaky Monkey Software (which DVDFab shall be called in my house forever more) and scanned my laptop to find no viruses. Then, I walked downstairs to find that my Mom had been doing some research of her own. She found another software by Topaz Labs that was used by large companies. Now, I had seen this one before, and been impressed by it, but it came with a $300 price tag. My parents, none-of-the-less, told me to do the free trial.
